SPINDALE (April 17, 2025) -- Isothermal Community College is proud to announce the appointment of Sarah Petty Crank as the new Director of its Small Business Center. With a robust background in workforce and community development, Crank is poised to lead the SBC in its mission to support and grow small businesses across Rutherford and Polk counties.

The SBC serves as a vital resource for aspiring and established entrepreneurs, offering free, confidential counseling, educational seminars, and access to essential business resources. Under Crank's leadership, the center aims to expand its outreach and deepen its impact within the local business community.

"I am honored to join Isothermal Community College and contribute to the vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem of our region," said Crank. "Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and I look forward to empowering them through education, resources, and personalized support."

Crank brings to the role a wealth of experience in business development and a passion for community engagement. She is a Rutherford County native who has worked for Rutherford County Schools, North Carolina State Employees Credit Union, and Foothills Regional Workforce Development Board. She is an alum of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, Isothermal Community College, and Gardner-Webb University.

“I’m very excited to be here to help people navigate starting and strengthening their businesses,” said Crank. “It’s even more exciting that I’m able to do it in the community I grew up in and with the people who are our people.”

Crank fills the role of Faye Bishop who served in the position for more than a decade and retired late last year.
