Exemption From the Placement Assessment

If you can provide specific documentation, you may be waived from taking all or a portion of the placement assessment. Admissions requires official documentation for evaluation of your placement assessment waiver. Following are ways you may be exempt.

  • High School transcript (no more than 10 years old) will place you in appropriate classes.
  • Previous ASSET, Compass, or Accuplacer scores no more than 10 years old
  • ACT Scores (English = 18+, Math = 22+, Reading = 21+) (no more than 10 years old)
  • SAT Scores from March 2016 and future: (Evidence-based Reading and Writing = 480+, Math = 530+) (no more than 10 years old)
  • Previous English and math college courses (must be evaluated by ICC) with an official college transcript

Follow these steps for evaluation:

Have placement assessment scores from another college mailed to Isothermal Community College, PO Box 804, Spindale, NC 28160, Attention: Admissions.

Request ACT or SAT scores through your high school and have them send a sealed official copy to Isothermal Community College, PO Box 804, Spindale, NC 28160, Attention: Admissions.

Request official high school transcripts to be sent in a sealed envelope to Isothermal Community College, PO Box 804, Spindale, NC 28160, Attention: Admissions.

Request official transcripts from the college you previous took English or math courses with and have them mailed to Isothermal Community College, PO Box 804, Spindale, NC 28160, Attention: Admissions.

Admissions will evaluate your official transcripts to determine if you are required to take the placement assessment.

To request placement assessment scores from Isothermal Community College download and print a request form for unofficial scores, complete the form, submit it to the testing coordinator by fax to 828-286-8109, email it to testing@isothermal.edu, or bring it to the Advising & Success Center located in the Student Center. You may also pick up a form at the Advising & Success Center.
