As many of you may have known, Joe Kendrick, director of programming and operations at WNCW, brought his music documentary series, “Southern Songs and Stories” to WNCW last month.
The program started in 2014 with video documentaries of Aaron Burdett and The Honeycutters, and went to a podcast format in 2017, including another video documentary on the Jon Stickley Trio. The latest episode posted recently, and may be found here: https://www.wncw.org/post/road-southern-songs-and-stories-tales-colorado-carolina.
Joe’s website at https://www.southernsongsandstories.com has all of these works, including many photos and more background on the series. Podcasts are available on these websites as well as all major podcast platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn.
Southern Songs and Stories was picked up by Bluegrass Planet Radio in early 2018, and then became part of the lineup on the Osiris podcast network soon after. Osiris was co-founded by Tom Marshall, lyricist for Phish, and it includes more than two dozen podcasts in its lineup, as well as video content. It is a media partner with JamBase.
Also, WNCW is putting on a one-day fund drive on Friday, Aug. 16. This coincides with the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, and the station has produced a special sticker to tie in with that theme. A special vacation package will also be given away. the hosts plan to play lots of Woodstock performances and a lot of music from 1969 all day.
