Admission/Readmission Policy

Admission

Isothermal Community College has an open door admission policy for applicants who are high school or high school equivalency graduates or who are 18 years of age. Admission to the College is open to applicants who meet graduation or age requirements without regard to veteran status, race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older),  disability, or genetic information. Additional admission criteria may be required for specific programs of study (reference 1D SBCCC 400.2- Admission to Colleges).

Eligible high school students and College and Career Readiness students may enroll in curriculum programs in accordance with North Carolina State Board of Community College Code.

Readmission

Isothermal Community College recognizes that certain circumstances may cause a disruption in a student’s ability to continuously work toward the completion of their program of study. Students who interrupt their enrollment at the College for three or more consecutive semesters must meet current admission requirements to be readmitted to a program of study published in the College Catalog and Student Handbook in effect upon return.

Students seeking readmission after suspension due to academic or disciplinary reasons must follow the readmission requirements set forth in the Academic Standing and Appeals Policy 401-02-00BP and/or Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Judicial Procedures Policy 601-02-00BP.

Readmission to selective enrollment programs of study will be made in accordance with program requirements and sequence.

The College reserves the right to refuse readmission if it is necessary to protect the safety of the applicant or other individuals, as set forth by the Admissions Exception Policy 601-02-09BP.

Readmission for Active Military Servicemembers and Reservists

Enrolled servicemembers who perform service in the uniformed services, whether voluntary or involuntary, in the Armed Forces, including service as members of the National Guard or Reserve, on active duty, active duty for training, or full-time National Guard duty under Federal authority (but not State authority), for a period of more than 30 consecutive days under a call or order to active duty of more than 30 consecutive days up to five years are given the opportunity for prompt readmission into their same program of study, under the same academic status, in accordance with the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020.

The advance notice of absence for active service must be provided by the servicemember or an appropriate officer of the Armed Forces or official of the Department of Defense orally or in writing to the dean of students. The requirement for advance notice is not required if it is precluded by military necessity.

The notice of the intent to return (readmission) must be provided by the servicemember orally or in writing to the dean of students.

The dean of students will serve as the point of contact for servicemembers and family members who may need assistance with supports such as academic counseling, financial counseling, disability/accessibility counseling, and additional resources and information regarding completing a course of education.
